Engaging Youth in Pollinator Conservation

On July 24, 2025, the Felső-Tisza Foundation, as the Hungarian partner of the Bee Home project, organized an interactive educational event at the Tiszavirág Youth Camp in Tivadar. The aim was to introduce the camp participants to the fascinating world of solitary bees and raise awareness about their vital role as pollinators in our ecosystems.

Through an engaging presentation and open discussion, the children learned about the unique life of solitary bees, the challenges these tiny yet essential creatures face, and the simple actions individuals can take to support them. The event also showcased practical examples of bee hotels, small structures that provide safe nesting places for solitary bees in gardens and urban environments.

The highlight of the day was a hands-on workshop where the children, under the guidance of the Hungarian partner, built their very own bee hotels. These handmade bee shelters can be placed on terraces, balconies, or gardens, contributing to local biodiversity and giving the children a tangible way to support pollinators in their own surroundings.

The event welcomed 27 enthusiastic participants, including 24 campers and 3 adults, whose active involvement made the day a great success. Their creativity and dedication turned a simple afternoon into an inspiring step towards environmental stewardship.

This workshop is part of a series of community events organized by the Felső-Tisza Foundation within the Bee Homeproject, aiming to promote pollinator conservation across 20 settlements during the summer and autumn of 2025.
