Awareness

Through the creation of short documentary films, tabletop game, online communication platforms, cross-border public events and children’s creative competitions, the project aims to foster awareness and participation in pollinator conservation efforts.

Innovative approach

The project’s innovative approach combines educational outreach, community engagement and cross-border collaboration.

Resilience to environmental challenges

The project’s beneficiaries include local communities, schools, farmers, NGOs and governmental agencies, all of whom stand to gain from improved ecosystem services, enhanced biodiversity and increased resilience to environmental challenges.

Collaboration

Through collaboration and innovation, we strive to encourage significant measures towards a sustainable future for both pollinators and people.

The background

“Bee Hotel” may sound like the title of a horror movie, but rest assured, it’s nothing of the sort. Many people view insects with disdain, considering them useless or even bothersome. However, these tiny creatures play a crucial role in ecosystems and offer significant benefits to agriculture. Insects are fundamental to biodiversity, making up a staggering 80% of all living organisms on Earth. According to the WWF, three-quarters of the world’s major crops and nearly 90% of wild plants rely on pollinators—especially solitary wild bees. Yet, in recent decades, insect populations have plummeted, largely due to the pressures of industrial agriculture.

So, what exactly is a bee hotel? These structures serve as shelters and breeding sites for solitary wild bees, which are vital for pollination. With pollinators facing increasing threats such as habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change, the Bee Home project aims to support their essential role in maintaining ecosystem health.
